| About Me
Marilyn graduated with high honors from The University of Texas at Austin where she was honored as a "Goodfellow". She received her Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Texas. Ms. Kaufman is a member of Kappa Delta, an International Honor Society in Education.
She has been a teacher, a principal, and an educational consultant for over thirty years. Ms. Kaufman was selected "Teacher of the Year" at Richland College, where she taught teacher education, human development and student success, and served as President of the Adjunct Faculty. Ms. Kaufman has counseled high school students on college admission and college students on career choices for more than ten years. She has presented workshops to faculty and professional staff for Region 10, and frequently presents educational and counseling programs for parents and students in the North Texas, including in the Plano, Richardson and Dallas School Districts, as well as being the featured speaker for Destination College. Ms. Kaufman chaired the College Admissions program for parents at St. Mark's School of Texas. In addition, Ms. Kaufman has been a frequent presenter at Borders Bookstores and on local television stations, on issues related to college topics. She has been an adjunct professor at SMU-in-Legacy, teaching college planning to high school students for the last five summers. In addition, Marilyn Kaufman serves on The Princeton Review National College Counselor Advisory Board. Ms. Kaufman believes that the most important part of the college process is to help each child recognize his or her value, emphasize one's strengths, discover who he or she is as a person, build confidence, and provide insight as to where a young adult can be happy and meet with success in a college environment, well suited for him or her. It is that ability to find the college or university where one can thrive, that truly sets Marilyn Kaufman apart from other college counselors. She is truly interested in getting to know each student personally and develops a wonderful relationship with each child, serving as a mentor and guide throughout the often stressful and overwhelming college admission process. Working with someone other than one's own parent, often takes the nagging and procrastination out of the picture, and instead, Marilyn Kaufman keeps each student on track, organized, and makes sure that all deadlines are met and applications are completed early. This is a very exciting time in a young person's life, and the role of the parent is to love, guide, support and encourage one's child, so that he or she realizes that their value is not tied in to the college they attend, but rather to who they are as a human being. |
